Toledo, OH, August 14, 2014–
brokencolor is pleased to unveil their latest work at the opening of Veritas Cork & Craft. Toledo’s newest wine shop and lounge is located at 505 Jefferson Avenue on the corner of North Superior and Jefferson Avenue in the Commodore Perry Building. Greg Zappone, creator of brokencolor, worked with Veritas owners Franz Gillis and Nick Kubiak to sketch out a general concept and look of the establishment.

“Veritas was a custom build right from scratch. I implemented distinctly different looks including industrial, contemporary and rustic utilizing reclaimed materials. The three different styles came together like the perfect storm to bring in an ‘Industrial Chic’ look,” says Zappone.

The interior design of the new establishment consists of many custom pieces from artists of Toledo. A mural by Doug Kampfer (Graphite Design + Build) is seen on the back wall as soon as you enter the front door. A second mural, a focal point over the bar area was created by Jeremy Link (Graphite Design + Build). In addition local artist Jessie Mireles, has three custom pieces. The cobalt blue abstract, hand painted tables compliment the custom painting of the burnt orange walls by Zappone himself.

Toledo Twisted Iron worked with Zappone’s vision to create several custom pieces including portions of the bar, wine wall, shelving of the retail space and custom tables. They also created the railroad spikes on the center wall which are all hand twisted uniquely and paying homage to the bar top. The bar top consists of 200 year old wood from upstate New York, found as framing material inside a building in downtown Toledo. “Sharing the stories of all the reclaimed materials is part of the joy of this project,” says Zappone. Many other reclaimed pieces like the room dividers made of stadium seating and the 80 year old northern white pine on the retail shelving all have a unique story.
