UT Opera Ensemble to present 3 One-Act American Operas
at the Blarney Event Center October 23, 24, & 26
The University of Toledo Opera Ensemble will honor American opera with the performance of three one-act operas in its production of “American Triptych: A Salute to American Opera,” Thursday, October 23, Friday, October 24 and Sunday, October 26. Performance times are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Performances will be held in downtown Toledo at the Blarney Event Center, 601 Monroe Street, a location that lends itself well to the character of the operas on the program. The three operas to be performed are “The Face on the Barroom Floor” by Henry Mollicone, “A Hand of Bridge” by Samuel Barber and “A Game of Chance” by Seymour Barab. In “The Face on the Barroom Floor” the legend of the woman whose image was painted on the floor of a Colorado saloon is reprised in the life of a current day woman. When two couples get together for “A Hand of Bridge,” their innermost thoughts and feelings are revealed. Barab’s “A Game of Chance” finds fate granting the heart’s desire of three young women, who are reminded: be careful what you wish for.
