Posted: Monday, October 27, 2014 by: Rose Mills | Category: Arts and Entertainment

Reading Shakespeare? In his lifetime the poet-playwright-actor would have considered this a strange idea. His plays were written to be seen, heard, and felt – live! On Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 pm, join the director and cast of the upcoming stage production of "Play On: A New Adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night!" Hear about the challenges of tackling Shakespeare in the 21st Century and the opportunities the classic text offers actors to interpret. The discussion will be led by director Jeremy Meier and composer/cast member Eric Walllack.
Jeremy Meier is an Associate Professor of Fine and Performing Arts at Owens Community College, where he teaches classes in Theatre and directs main stage student productions every Fall and Spring Semester. For the upcoming production of “Play On”, he adapted Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and explored the possibilities of how to communicate the festive classic to contemporary audiences while staying loyal to the Bard's mastery of language.

Eric Wallack is an Associate Professor at Owens Community College, teaching music and the occasional art appreciation classes for the Fine & Performing Arts department. Mr. Wallack is an active recording & performing musician focusing on early jazz and classical music on multiple instruments as well as uniquely American forms of songwriting. His work on the “Play On” project happily marks another year of rewarding collaborations with Mr. Meier.

This program is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served.
