Norway Travelogue at Way Library on November 12
The public is invited to a travelogue showcasing ‘the land of the midnight sun’ on Wednesday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Way Public Library. Journey along with Jan and Gary Samples as they expertly narrate a photographic tour of their trip to Norway, from the south to the north. Enjoy the beauty of the fjords, wonder at the old and new Oslo, visit Bergen—once a Hanseatic League city, and view the majestic scenery which inspired 19th century classical composer Edvard Grieg.
Gary and Jan Samples are now retired from school teaching. Gary taught social studies and government in the Toledo Public Schools and was a Perrysburg City Council member for 24 years. He is currently involved with the area council on governments – TMACOG. Jan taught lower elementary grades at Maumee Valley Country Day School. Their hobbies include genealogy, gardening, volunteering, and of course, travel. Together they have been to 49 of our states and 37 other countries. Sometimes they bike – 1200 miles in southern France and 750 miles along the Danube River, a 400 mile trip along the Erie Canal; sometimes they hike – 101 miles in England along Hadrian’s Wall; and sometimes they canoe in the USA and Canada. Gary has also been in New Zealand where he bicycled 1300 miles in one month. Their travels are a mix of independent and group tours.
