14th Annual Vistula Victorian Christmas Tea
TOLEDO, OH — The Vistula Historic District, Toledo’s “first neighborhood,” will celebrate the holiday season with its 14th annual Victorian Christmas Tea and Open House on December 12, 13 and 14 at the Matthew Brown House, 1107 North Superior Street. All proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefit the Historic Vistula Foundation, a nonprofit organization that focuses on preserving the integrity of the neighborhood’s historic properties.
Guests are invited to attend any of this year’s Victorian Christmas Tea sittings:
Friday, December 12 11:30 am • 1:30 pm • 3:30 pm
Saturday, December 13 11:00 am • 1:00 pm • 3:00 pm
Sunday, December 14 12:30 pm • 2:30 pm • 4:30 pm
Reservations for all nine sittings are available through advance ticket purchase at $30 per person. Each sitting can accommodate 30 guests, so early reservations are encouraged. Call (419) 266-8039 or visit www.historicvistulafoundation.org for more information.
The Victorian Christmas Tea is a breathtaking step back into time featuring fragrant teas, sumptuous seasonal treats served on fine china and linens, and glorious holiday decorations that hearken back to a simpler, yet grander, time in Toledo’s history. Guests will enjoy teas specially selected to complement each savory and sweet menu item.
The Matthew Brown House, a family home built in 1865, boasts 13 rooms elegantly adorned for the holidays. Highlights include eight decorated fireplace mantels, a whimsical Toy Room, numerous Santa Clauses, and the delightful Krinkle Tree designed by Patience Brewster.
The Vistula Historic District features some of the city’s finest historic architectural treasures and predates the incorporation of the City of Toledo. Magnificent mansions were built right next to smaller working-man homes, corner stores and ethnic churches. Vistula is not only designated as one of Toledo’s historic neighborhoods, but is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
