NOV. 9 UT to present 4-Hand and 8-Hand Piano Concert

The University of Toledo Department of Music will present an exceptional 4-hand and 8-hand concert, Sunday, November 9. “Coming Home…An All-Steinway Concert will be held at 3 p.m. in the UT Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall. Pianists on the concert include Frances Renzi, Dr. Michael Boyd, Robert Ballinger, members of the Toledo Piano Teachers Association, UT Music alumni, students, and faculty, performing on two Steinway concert grand pianos.

The program will consist exclusively of piano ensemble works: compositions for one piano and 4 hands; 2 pianos and 4 hands; and 2 pianos and 8 hands. Works include the Carmen fantasy (2 piano), Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (4 hands), Liszt’s Don Juan Fantasy for 2 pianos, Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries for 2 pianos (8 hands). Other composers to also be featured on the program are Falla, Debussy, Mozart, and Brahms.

The program will also remember Lee Murray who was an ardent supporter of UT’s piano program. In honor of her Hispanic heritage and her support of Toledo and its sister city, Toledo, Spain, there will be pieces on the program that carry a Spanish theme.

A reception with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will follow the concert.
