Same Great Entertainment, Same Great Cause, Great NEW Location!

TOLEDO, OHIO – Toledo’s best bands will once again join together for the 5th Annual Rock for Autism concert benefiting the Autism Society of Northwest Ohio, Saturday, May 9, 2015, but this year’s event has a new location: the new Martini ‘n’ Nuzzi’s, at 329 North Huron Street in Downtown Toledo.

As in past years, the concert will be headlined by Match City (with Calen Savidge, Matt Beier, and Joe Woods), and will include The Fling (with Claire Cooper, voted Toledo’s best singer by the Toledo City Paper); Nick Neenan; Last Born Sons, and others. Bands will begin playing at 5 pm and will play until around 1 am. Match City will take the stage around 10 pm. Tickets will be $15.00 at the door. Drinks and premium dinners will be sold separately.

One-hundred percent of the profits will go to the Autism Society of Northwest Ohio to help provide support, education, advocacy, and services to those affected by autism in 12 northwest Ohio counties.

Started as fun way for Delta High School Student Council to raise money, Rock for Autism has grown into an annual regional event that has featured nationally-known bands such as the Verve Pipe, according to Derek Friess, Pike-Delta-York Schools Technology Coordinator. Friess says benefiting the Autism Society of Northwest Ohio was the students’ choice.

“Several years ago, when I took over as the advisor for student council we wanted to do an event in the spring to raise money for a charity so I went to the kids to see what they wanted,” Friess explains. “At the time we had a wonderful popular student with autism. He was Coming Home king, happy, and even popular and the kids got to thinking that they wanted a way to help with the other aspects of his life, and his family’s life. The Autism Society seemed to be exactly what they were looking for, a way to help local people, not only those with autism, but also the families. It has been well received ever since.”

The annual fundraiser was held at Delta High School in past years. Friess says it is being moved this year to the new Martini ‘n’ Nuzzi’s to create a “nightlife” experience with the concert, including the premium dinners and drinks. The new restaurant is set to open sometime mid-April, probably around the Mud Hens’ opening day.
