Toledo Symphony Plans Sixth Trip to Chautauqua
The Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is happy to announce that plans are in place for the sixth TSO-sponsored trip to Chautauqua Institution, in Western New York – only 250 miles from Toledo. Friends of TSO appreciate that Chautauqua is a world-renowned place of culture, entertainment, arts, education, discussions of religion and politics – and so much more. The property is beautiful, slightly hilly and along Lake Chautauqua. This year’s trip leaves downtown Toledo on Monday morning, July 27, and returns on Thursday evening, July 30.
“Art and Politics” is the theme for the week that TSO friends will be there. Lecturers will demonstrate how art is used in politics and to influence political processes, using examples in music, fine art, photography, the digital world, comedy, satire and language. We will enjoy the Chautauqua Symphony’s performance of selections from seven of Mozart’s masterpieces and two evenings of dance programs with festival orchestra.
The travel package includes transportation on a deluxe motor coach, three nights at the historic Athenaeum Hotel, three full-day passes to Chautauqua, all meals and an ice cream social. Cost per person, double occupancy, is $1,160.00; single rooms (limited availability) are $1,290.00. Optional activities include a guided walking tour and “Intimate Apparel,” a play by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage.
