May 3rd will mark the fourth annual Parents of Preemies Day (http://parentsofpreemiesday.org) and the organization behind the day, Graham’s Foundation, has announced that preparations for this year's events are already underway. The Toledo event will include a keynote presentation by Andy Male, author of Go Preemies! and a former preemie.

"Parents of preemies in the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU) have to show amazing strength and commitment as they support and advocate for their babies," said Nick Hall, founder and president of Graham's Foundation. "And the challenges of prematurity don't go away once preemies come home – in some cases, the impact of prematurity can last a lifetime. It's the courage and resilience it takes to keep going that Parents of Preemies Day was created to recognize."

Male is a testament to how much preemies can accomplish despite those challenges. He was born three months and one week premature and was cared for in the NICU of Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital – where he has continued to be a study participant, volunteer, spokesperson, and donor. His book is a fun, inspirational, and educational guide that highlights the world-changing accomplishments that preemies have achieved and can achieve.

"I am so excited to be celebrating Parents of Preemies Day with Graham's Foundation, true champions of preemie advocacy and the founders of this important nationwide event," Male said. "Preemie parents share a unique bond, and I'm grateful that our community now has this day to share our love with them and bring awareness of their sacrifices and triumphs to those outside of the NICU."

Nick Hall and his wife, Jennifer, know the effects of prematurity first hand, having experienced the birth of their twins 15 weeks prematurely before facing the trials of the NICU and the loss of their son, Graham. Their experiences inspired them to create Graham’s Foundation to support preemie parents year round and Parents of Preemies Day, which has grown into a much-anticipated global happening in just four years.

Parents of Preemies Day has been featured on Parenting.com, BlogHer, and Babble, as well as in print and broadcast media.
