The Toledo Symphony and the Toledo Opera Announce Conductor

The Toledo Symphony Orchestra and Toledo Opera are proud to announce the appointment of Sara Jobin to the conducting staff of both organizations for the 2015-2016 season. Ms. Jobin, who has worked extensively with the Toledo Symphony throughout the 2014-2015 season, will be the Associate Conductor for the Toledo Opera and Interim Resident Conductor for the Toledo Symphony.

Ms. Jobin, a Grammy-nominated conductor, who has a passion for opera, American and contemporary music is the Chief Conductor of the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York City, Music Director of the Made in America Series at Opera Idaho, and co-creator of the Different Voice Opera Project. She was the first woman to conduct a main stage subscription performance at the San Francisco Opera and has since conducted the world premiere of The Secret Garden commissioned from Nolan Gasser’s

Toledo Opera’s Executive Director, Suzanne Rorick says, “We are very excited to welcome Sara Jobin back to Toledo Opera and to continue our collaboration with the Toledo Symphony. Sara is a gifted musician who we believe will enrich the community through her work with both the Opera and the Symphony.”

At Toledo Opera, Sara will conduct Madama Butterfly, the first production of the 2015-2016 season on October 2 & 4, 2015. She will be the associate conductor for Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess on February 12 & 14, 2016 as well as Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette on April 8 & 10, 2016.

General Manager of the Toledo Symphony and Percussionist for both symphony and opera events, Keith McWatters, “Sara Jobin is a wonderful person. If one need say more… she is a gifted musician, a remarkable conductor and a consummate professional. She will be an exemplary ambassador across the region for the Toledo Symphony and Toledo Opera. At the Toledo Symphony, Ms. Jobin has been named the Interim Resident Conductor, responsible for programing the beloved Neighborhood and Regional concerts, Young People’s Concerts, and will be on call for all regular season concerts.

Both the Symphony and Opera are proud to welcome musicians to the Toledo artistic community. It is a vital part of the mission of both organizations to foster a musical community in Toledo for musicians and teachers who deliver outstanding performances and music education programs. Sara Jobin’s appointment is an essential element of building that community.
