Late Mayor Collins to be Honored at CCMT Urban All-American
Central City Ministry of Toledo (CCMT) will honor the late Toledo Mayor D. Michael Collins at its 24th Annual Urban All-American Celebration on Wednesday, May 27 at the Pinnacle in Maumee. Mayor Collins will be one of the recipients of the CCMT Achievement Award, which is presented to a graduate of a Toledo central city Catholic elementary school who exhibits extraordinary achievement or academic, athletic, and/or career success. Recipients must be positive role models for today’s students by demonstrating integrity, high ideals, and moral character. Mayor Collins graduated from St. James Catholic School in 1958. His wife, Sandra Drabik, will accept the award on his behalf.
The Urban All-American Celebration is an annual fundraiser that supports the students and staff of Rosary Cathedral and Queen of Apostles schools. The keynote speaker for the event is Bishop Daniel E. Thomas. A social hour with cash bar and a sponsor’s reception will begin at 6:00 p.m., with the dinner and program at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $100 each and are tax deductible.
The other recipient of the CCMT Achievement Award will be Joseph Tafelski, executive director of Advocates for Basic Legal Equality and current President of the Rotary Club of Toledo. He is a 1960 graduate of Rosary Cathedral.
At this event, CCMT also recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions in the promotion and enhancement of Catholic education in the central city schools through the presentation of the Rev. Bernard J. Boff Service Award. This year’s recipient of the Service Award is The Reverend Monsignor Michael R. Billian, pastor of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish and Corpus Christi Parish.
Guests will have the opportunity to purchase artwork created by students at the Creative Corner. The evening will conclude with each principal presenting a Rising Star Award to one student who best exemplifies the CCMT motto, “Education with a Catholic Foundation.”
The Urban All American dinner sponsor is Mercy, and the reception sponsors are The Andersons and Cumulus Broadcasting. Please call 419-244-6711, ext. 155 or email [email protected] to reserve seats or for more information.
