Free Showing of "Selma" at Way Library

Posted: Monday, June 1, 2015 by: Rose Mills | Category: Arts and Entertainment

Way Library’s Show Me the Movie contemporary film series selection for June is “Selma,” a drama featuring gripping performances and an important history lesson. In 1965, Martin Luther King, Jr., stood up in the face of violent opposition and led an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. The goal was equal voting rights for black Americans, and the march resulted in the passage of the landmark federal Voting Rights Act.
“Selma” was released in 2014 and received a nomination for “Best Picture” at the Academy Awards. It also received four Golden Globe Award nominations, including Best Motion Picture-Drama, Best Director, Best Actor, and it won for Best Original Song.
Showtime is at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3. This is a free presentation for adults only, and refreshments will be served. Way Library’s Show Me the Movie series is sponsored by Skotynsky Financial Group, at waylibrary.info.
