The Franciscan Center of Lourdes University is pleased to announce the following events.

Monday, August 3 through Friday, August 7
The Sylvania Community Arts Commission (SCAC) offers a Youth Theater Workshop for participants aged 10-17 years old. Workshop runs 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Monday through Friday with an onstage performance scheduled on Friday, August 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the theatre. Cost: $150 for Sylvania residents; $180 for Sylvania Township residents; and $200 for non-Sylvania residents. For more information, visit www.sylvaniaarts.org or call 419-517-0118.

Friday, August 14
The Daughter Project event begins at the Lathrop House in Harroun Community Park on Main Street, in Sylvania, at 6 p.m. Participants will trek a “Slave Trail Freedom Walk,” arriving at the Franciscan Center in time for the 7 p.m. screening of the human trafficking documentary Nefarious: Merchant of Souls. To date, the documentary has garnered 24 international film festival awards. A reception follows. Free and open to the public; participants are encouraged to register at www.thedaughterproject.org. If it rains, the walk will be cancelled and participants can meet for the documentary at the Franciscan Center at 7 p.m. For more information about the event, email [email protected].

Saturday, August 18
The Sylvania Franciscan Village (SFV) presents its monthly Father Jim Bacik lecture - “Pope Francis and the Environment” at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door and may be purchased at www.sylvaniafranciscanvillage.org or by calling 419-824-3515.

Friday, August 28
The Lourdes University Lifelong Learning program presents its Fall Kickoff in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie at 11 a.m. Jeremy Meier, Associate Professor at Owens Community College and facilitator of its Theatre Program, will perform a one-man show as Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry. During his performance, “Commander Perry” will recall the challenges of building a squadron in remote frontier wilderness and the climactic battle that preserved the Old Northwest for the U.S. Afterwards, the Lourdes University Classical Guitar Ensemble will delight audience members with a variety of pieces. $10 per person (includes lunch).
