Black Cloister to bring the beer documentary, “Blood, Sweat, & Beer” to Toledo.

Enjoy a good brew and peel back the curtain on the hard knocks of craft beer.

TOLEDO, OH – Black Cloister Brewing Company will be hosting a onetime screening of the feature documentary “Blood, Sweat, & Beer” inside the taproom on Wednesday, July 22nd, at 7:00 PM.

“Blood, Sweat, and Beer” showcases the explosive growth of the craft beer industry and the dramatic journeys of two start-up breweries.

The film follows a trio of 23-year-olds as they struggle to start The Brew Gentlemen Beer Company in Braddock, PA., in hopes their brewery will help this once-prosperous steel town bounce back from decades of neglect, violence, and population loss. The film also tells the emotional story of Danny Robinson, a boardwalk brewery owner and restaurateur whose empire is threatened by an aggressive trademark lawsuit that could leave him penniless.

The feature film will start at 7:00 PM, with a Q&A with the filmmakers and owners of Black Cloister to follow. There are no tickets for sale for this event; Black Cloister is accepting a suggested viewing fee of $10. The event is open to the public. Beer will be sold during this event.

The film is being screened in association with the Glass City Mashers, the Toledo area’s largest home brewing club – originally founded by Tom Schaeffer (CEO of Black Cloister) prior to opening the brewery.

“Certainly, the challenges facing the daring brewers and business owners featured in this film ring true with us. I’m eager to see the film, even though I am sure it may re-open some fresh wounds that have yet to heal from the hard knocks of starting a brewery from the ground up. Our story shares in the same blood, sweat, and of course, beer poured out along the way. For that reason, I can’t think of a better first film to screen at BCBC than this one.” – Scott Biddle, Founder & VP of Black Cloister Brewing Co.
