Metroparks To Celebrate BugFest August 15

Metroparks will celebrate bugs - yes, bugs! - August 15 at BugFest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Secor Metropark. The free festival will include Dr. Insecta’s Incredible, Unforgettable Bug Lab Experience, the Toledo Zoo’s Mighty Bug! program, bug sculptures by local artists and students, as well as a photography exhibit. Family activities will include a geocache bug hunt. BugFest will also provide an early start to this year’s Autumn Adventure program. Visitors can pick up an Autumn Adventure brochure to track the walks and other activities they complete in the Metroparks this fall. Imagination Station, The Olander Park System, Oak Openings Region Conservancy, The Ohio State University Extension, Wild Ones, Toledo Lucas County Public Library and The Anderson’s are among the many community partners participating in BugFest. Food will be available from food truck vendors. BugFest Schedule All activities are free. 11 a.m. Dr. Insecta’s Incredible, Unforgettable Bug Lab Experience (Secor Room). It’s a return visitor for Dr. Insecta and his menagerie of creepy, crawly spiders, hissing cockroaches and other critters. The Dr. Insecta show is as funny and engaging at it is educational. 11 a.m. Autumn Adventure Kick Off Hike: Incredible Bug Hunt. Explore the Orange Trail in search of amazing insects. Noon Toledo Zoo, The Mighty Bug! (Secor Room). Insects are amazing animals that are important in so many ways. Explore what makes them so cool and some of the many ways that plants, animals and people need bugs. Meet some live bugs and live insectivores that eat bugs every day. Noon to 2 p.m. Autumn Adventure Geocache Bug Hunt. Looking for bugs isn’t just for kids anymore. Big kids of all ages can enjoy this bug-themed geocaching adventure. Food Trucks on site: Captain Daddy Dogs (hot dogs, Coney dogs and more) and Jacky’s Depot (sweet, frozen treats) Inside the National Center for Nature Photography: • Photo exhibits focused on – what else?
