The Citizens Committee for the Zoo Announce Levy Co-Chairs
The Citizens Committee for the Zoo is proud to announce the co-chairs for the Toledo Zoo’s 2015 Capital Levy Campaign. This year’s levy co-chairs are Fran Anderson, Doni Miller and Bruce Baumhower. The Zoo is seeking a 1 mill renewal levy. This is not a new tax. The levy will generate funds to support construction of new exhibits, renovation of current exhibits and maintenance of Zoo grounds. “We are very pleased to announce these co-chairs,” says Jeff Sailer, executive director of the Toledo Zoo. “We will be relying on their expertise and knowledge of the community as we shape our campaign.” Fran Anderson, a philanthropic leader in the community and advocate for senior citizens, says: “I want to remind all Lucas County seniors that the Zoo has a long-standing commitment to seniors through sponsoring events to engage our segment of the community and help us remain close to our grandchildren. This levy is a renewal and will not increase taxes. For our city, our families and our cherished memories, I urge everyone to vote for the Zoo levy.” “The Zoo is a huge asset to our city and Lucas County as a whole. Nearly one million people visit the Toledo Zoo each year, many from out of town. The tourism dollars the Zoo brings to the Toledo area provide a huge boost to our local economy. A 10-year economic perspective study by Bowling Green State University Center for Regional Development showed that the Zoo generates approximately $6.50 for every $1 it receives in levy funds. It is vitally important that we keep our Zoo great,” says campaign co-chair Doni Miller, CEO of Neighborhood Health Association and host of “Bridges” television show. Bruce Baumhower, president of UAW Local 12, sees the Zoo as a valuable community asset for families. “There is truly something here for everyone,” said Baumhower. “The Zoo is safe, affordable and provides top-notch entertainment for the whole family. It truly enriches the lives of its visitors.” Sailer, in conclusion, says, “We owe our levy co-chairs a huge debt of gratitude. We look forward to the campaign. This levy is vital to keeping our Zoo a source of pride for our community and we look forward to telling our story to the people of Lucas County.”
