2nd Annual Red Cross Blood Drive on 10/15 Honors Tim Berta
Red Cross Club at Lourdes University hosts 2nd Annual Blood Drive honoring Tim Berta
On Thursday, October 15, the Red Cross Club of Lourdes University will host its 2nd annual blood drive in honor of alumnus Tim Berta. The blood drive takes place in the Franciscan Center gymnasium from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Lourdes’ Red Cross Club was established in 2014 by social work student and softball student-athlete Megan Mosiniak. A Swanton resident, Megan was inspired to start the club after being part of the elite NAIA/Red Cross Leadership Program, in which she was among 13 students chosen nationally during the 2014-2015 academic year.
Tim Berta is a former assistant baseball coach at Lourdes University. In 2007, while a member of the Bluffton University baseball team, he survived a bus crash that killed five student-athletes. Tim was severely and permanently injured in the crash and received blood products that saved his life. When faced with near impossible odds and challenges, he finished his undergraduate work in biology at Bluffton and finished his Master of Organizational Leadership degree at Lourdes University in May 2015. He has inspired hundreds in the Lourdes community and throughout the United States.
“Nearly 20 percent of the millions of donations made to the Red Cross annually come from high school and college blood drives – and we want to continue this effort and make it even more successful,” says Megan.
Those wishing to give blood at Lourdes University are asked to make an appointment by calling 517-920-2070. Register online at www.redcrossblood.org using the code LOURDES. Donors must present a photo ID at appointment.
About Red Cross
Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money and blood to do its work. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. Today, the Red Cross provides approximately 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply, more than any other blood bank. As a national provider, the Red Cross has a unique responsibility to help ensure hospital patients throughout the U.S. have blood when they need it. For more information visit www.redcrossblood.org.
