Mayor's Forum planned for Oct. 23 at Tent City
A Mayor's Forum will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 on the opening night of Tent City, located downtown at the Civic Center Mall. All seven Toledo mayoral candidates -- Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson, former mayor Mike Bell, former mayor Carty Finkbeiner, Sandy Drabik Collins (wife of late mayor D. Michael Collins), Toledo City Councilwoman Sandy Spang, former Toledo City Councilman Mike Ferner and Opal Covey -– are expected to attend. The forum will be moderated by Keith Burris of The Blade and Lee Conklin of 13abc. The event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
1Matters.org is a Toledo nonprofit whose mission is to leverage community compassion and deliver it to those on the streets and in the shelters, with the goal of helping people return to domestic autonomy. Tent City is an annual homeless advocacy and awareness event held at the Civic Center Mall downtown. It offers hot meals, clothing, haircuts, medical services, social services, assistance obtaining birth certificates/IDs and more. Guests and volunteers alike find themselves changes and inspired as they gather to eat, talk, listen to live music and "be 1 who matters." This year's 26th Tent City will be held Oct. 23-25, featuring the Parade of Compassion (6 p.m. Oct. 23), a Mayor's Forum (8 p.m. Oct. 23), Project Connect (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 24) and more.
