UT Piano Gala: An All-Steinway Event
The University of Toledo Department of Music will hold a spectacular all-Steinway concert performed by faculty, alumni, graduate students and guests, Sunday, November 15. The Performance will be held at the Recital Hall in the Center for Performing Arts at 3 p.m. The program will include the finest compositions ever written for piano including 2-piano performances written for 4 hand and 8 hand. Performers will include Frances Renzi, Dr. Michael Boyd, Nathanael Leonard, Christina Montri, Phil Clark and many others. The University of Toledo is well on its way to becoming an all-Steinway school, offering its students the finest pianos on which to practice and perform. Ticket proceeds will support this effort. The Piano Gala concert is a part of the Dorothy Mackenzie Price Piano Series, which will also feature Jóse López (February 6-7, 2016) and Ryan Behan (April 2-3, 2016). The University of Toledo Department of Music will also host a film screening of “Note-by-Note: The Making of Steinway L1037,” a feature-length independent documentary that follows the creation of a Steinway concert grand — #L1037 — from forest floor to concert hall. It explores the relationship between musician and instrument, chronicles the manufacturing process, and illustrates what makes each Steinway unique in this age of mass production. Admission to the film screening is free. It will be held Saturday, November 7 at 7 p.m. in the UT Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall. The piano featured in the film will also be present at the screening.
