Award-Winning Arts Writer and Critic to Jury Regional Exhibition
PERRYSBURG, December 2015-- Owens Center for Fine and Performing Art and River House Arts are pleased to announce that Detroit-based arts writer and critic, Sarah Rose Sharp, will be the juror for “Borders”, an exhibition exploring the place of political, social, geographical, as well as personal lines and boundaries in contemporary life. Sharp writes about art and culture in the greater Midwest region for Art in America, Hyperallergic, KnightArts, ZIPR Magazine, and other arts publications. She was named a 2015 Kresge Literary Arts Fellow for Arts Criticism and was just named as a participant in the 2016 International Art Critics Association/USA Section (AICA/USA) and the Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program. For Sharp, the jurying process is a unique opportunity to see the range of work being produced in the region by emerging and mid-career visual artists. "I’m excited, first and foremost, to get to look at submissions from what I hope is a large and diverse pool of Great Lakes artists. I believe the legacy of industrialized America and the ravages in the wake of its decline have created fertile soil for creative expression and alternative visions for our collective future… I cannot say what conclusions will be drawn, but enter this opportunity in the open-ended spirit of investigation." Call for Submissions Artists from the Great Lakes region working in any visual media, are invited to submit their work for consideration. Submissions from individuals 18 years of age and older will be accepted through the online service CaFÉ at CallForEntry.org. through February 1, 2016. The exhibition will take place in the Walter E Terhune Gallery at the Owens Center for Fine and Performing Arts and in display spaces adjacent to the main space. Exhibition dates are March 4 – 31, 2016.
