MLK – Commemoration Worship Service
A diverse group of church leaders from the Maumee and Greater Toledo area are joining together to put their faith into action and honor the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. King had a dream of freedom. In a commemoration worship service, January 17 at 4 p.m., the churches will celebrate their freedom to worship together and the freedom found in Christ.
The worship service will focus on the need for personal confession and repentance. “While the voices around us look for someone else to blame, we want to heed God’s call to look within,” says Pastor Clint Tolbert. “We want the Church to recognize and take ownership for the ways we have been divided, racially and otherwise, and begin to experience healing from its divisions.” The leaders will extend a message of the peace that comes from forgiveness, out through their congregations into their communities.
This is the second year for such a service in the historic First Presbyterian Church chapel, 200 E. Broadway St. in Maumee. Search-Lite Community Church led by Pastor Lee Williams has been holding their regular Sunday worship services in the First Presbyterian Chapel. Last year, Rev. Williams and Rev. Tolbert recognized an opportunity for a joint service that would be racially diverse and welcoming. The service this year has grown from that beginning.
