TSA Instrumentalists Named to 2016 Carnegie Hall Honors Orchestra
Toledo, Ohio – Toledo School for the Arts (TSA) violinists Pilar Athaide-Victor and Cole Habekost are booked for New York City in February to appear with fellow musicians from around the world as part of the Carnegie High School Honors Orchestra. Also from TSA, oboist Isabel Wening was named to the Carnegie High School Honors Concert Band. The performance series is held at the famed Carnegie Hall, with select elite students invited to audition from around the world. Members are selected after a review of hundreds of applicants. Athaide-Victor returns for a third time to this honors group, and the impressive young musician held the Principal Viola seat in the 2015 Honors Orchestra. TSA Trombonist Kendal Smith was named as a First Runner Up for the celebrated group. At TSA, Athaide-Victor and Habekost perform on violin and viola in the String Orchestra, Studio Orchestra, and String Quartet, while Wening and Smith perform in the Studio Winds, Studio Orchestra, and Chamber Winds. The High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall was established to showcase some of the most talented student performers in high school today. Through an individual nomination and selection process, accomplished students are brought together in New York City with peers to comprise these honors instrumental ensembles. These young musicians rehearse daily at TSA under the instruction of teachers Jay Welenc and Diana Anderson, and through the school’s comprehensive arts programming, they enjoy much opportunity to perform throughout both the community and the country.
