Maumee Valley Country Day School Announces the Art Exhibit at the Toledo Zoo Aquarium March 4 – June 5, 2016

Maumee Valley Country Day School students in grades 1 through 6 have created an art exhibit for the Toledo Zoo Aquarium’s Reflections Gallery which can be viewed from March 4 – June 5, 2016. This collection of acrylic painting integrates art, literature, and aquatic animals. The young artists designed and painted animal characters which illustrate several poems, novels, fairy tales, stories, and nursery rhymes. They worked on seven large, wood panels ranging from 2’x4’ to 4’x5’, and applied the colorful paint and text or quotes from literature. The fifth and sixth grade students and art club designed and painted the aquatic characters. Third and fourth grade students added details and line designs using glitter crayons and small fish which are swimming around the large characters were cut out by the first and second grade students. The literature that inspired the art works are: "Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway, 1952 “The Octopus” by Ogden Nash "The Beauty of the Beast: Poems from the Animal Kingdom" by Jack Prelutsky, 1997 "Fish" by Mary Ann Hoberman from: "The Llama Who Had No Pajama:100 Favorite Poems" “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish”, a fairy tale by Alexander Pushkin, Russian, written in 1833. Adapted by The Brothers Grimm. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Once I caught a fish alive… Nursery Rhyme,with Mother Goose’s Melody 1765, variation by American, Henry Bolton in 1880’s.
