Glacity Theatre Collective Announces New Artistic Director
Toledo: Ed Lingan, who has served as the Artistic Director for Glacity Theatre Collective (GTC) for three years, has chosen to step down from this position in order to focus on creating new work, and company marketing and promotion efforts. Jennifer Nagy Lake will take over as the company’s new Artistic Director. During his tenure, Lingan re-focused the company on doing original work by local artists. He worked with company members to create new performance pieces, beginning with Megan Aherne and Sean Koogan’s site-specific Halloween performance, For the Devil Tells Me So. Most recently, Lingan collaborated with company member Timothy Lake to create House of Vinyl, which premiered in Toledo in the summer of 2015, and which will be remounted for the Toronto Fringe Festival this coming summer. Lingan says, “It is really exciting to produce original devised work like House of Vinyl, because it seems that we always gain new and fresh faces in the audience when we do it. Also, these tend to be works that are potentially mobile – with light sets and light technology. This makes them prime material for touring to festivals and other venues, and that idea of expanding outward is interesting to me and some other members of GTC.” Ms. Nagy Lake is well known in Toledo’s theatre community, having performed locally with the University of Toledo, Toledo Repertoire, Actors Collaborative Toledo, Village Players and Croswell Opera House, among others. Prior to returning to Toledo several years ago, she performed around the US in tours, dinner theatres, and regional theatres. She appeared in several of GTC’s productions, including Exhibition, Hunting Cockroaches, The American Dream/The Sandbox, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, House of Vinyl, and Satanarium. Most recently for GTC, she directed and appeared in Assholes and Aureoles by local playwright Eric Pfeffinger. As GTC’s new Artistic Director Ms. Nagy Lake intends to work with other Toledo theatre companies to share resources, coordinate schedules and explore possible collaborations. “I am very happy to have the opportunity to help build a stronger Theatre community,” says Nagy Lake. “The Collective has been in great hands and I am proud and enthusiastic to take over this leadership position. My goal is to build a stronger team effort and a more collaborative art scene.” The GTC board and company are excited to work with Ms. Nagy Lake in this new capacity, and look forward to more exciting work to share with the Toledo community!
