TOLEDO, Ohio — Start your summer off right at the Toledo Zoo! May New Experiences Opening Experience the wild wonders of Africa at the new Expedition Africa! Aerial Adventure Course presented by Mercy Health and Tower Ridge Giraffe Experience. Separate fees apply. For more information, please visit toledozoo.org/africa. Saturdays & Sundays, starting May 1 Weekend hours begin The Zoo’s weekend admission hours will be 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Weekday admission hours are 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. until Memorial Day weekend. Reminder, the Zoo stays open one additional hour after last admission to allow guests to finish their visits. However, many animals may be off exhibit during the last hour. Sunday, May 1 Cinco de Mayo Celebration supported by MetroPCS Be transported south of the border to celebrate Mexico’s rich heritage with music, dance, crafts and more! This event is free with Zoo admission. Don’t forget to drop by and see the new Penguin chicks on exhibit with the rest of their African Penguin colony! Friday, May 6 – Sunday, May 15 The Biggest Week in American Birding "The Biggest Week in American Birding" flies into northwest Ohio, hosted by Oak Harbor's Black Swamp Bird Observatory. Come birding at the Zoo! In addition to tracking the native species, stop by the free-flight ‘Keet Retreat, visit the two new African Penguin chicks at Penguin Beach, stroll around the Pheasantry and enjoy the new outdoor home to unique birds from around the world and wrap up your visit with a trip to the Zoo's award-winning Aviary. Saturday, May 7 Family Zoo Yoga Join the Zoo for some healthy family fun. All ages are invited to bend like a giraffe, balance like a flamingo and bounce like an otter! Learn all about some of your favorite Zoo residents while participating in animal-inspired yoga poses. This class runs 10-11 a.m. and continues the first Saturday of each month through June. Sunday, May 8 Mother’s Day Celebration and Brunch Moms receive free Zoo admission when they are accompanied by at least one child. Spend the day celebrating Mom and enjoying a whole Zoo’s worth of fun. Be sure to visit and celebrate with our animal moms: Yaz, the orangutan and Renee, the African elephant! As an optional extra, the Zoo offers a full-service Mother’s Day brunch in the historic Lodge. Saturday, May 21 Medical Mutual Dart Frog Dash On your mark…set…go! The twelfth annual 5K race/walk and 1K kids’ fun run treks through and around the Zoo. Pre-registration for the race is strongly encouraged. Dave’s Running Shop and media sponsor BCSN provide additional support for the Medical Mutual Dart Frog Dash. Zip into summer by spending the long holiday weekend enjoying all the wild fun of the Zoo, including animal demonstrations and feedings, live animal shows and fun activities for the whole family! Summer Behind-the-Scenes Tours also begin. Beginning Sat, May 28, the Zoo will be open daily 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.
