Happy 13th Birthday, Louie!
TOLEDO, Ohio — Soon the Toledo Zoo will officially have a teenager! On Saturday, April 30 the Zoo will celebrate the thirteenth birthday of our big boy, Louie, the African elephant! This elephant-sized extravaganza takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Louie’s home in Tembo Trail. At 10:30 a.m., the birthday boy will get his presents: fun and colorful enrichment items hand-crafted by ZOOTeens and animal care staff. Then at 1:30 p.m., Louie will take the first bite of the tasty birthday treat that the Zoo’s catering department made just for him, full of his favorite fruits and vegetables. The Toledo Opera will also be on hand to sing “Happy Birthday” to Louie at 10:30 a.m., as a warm-up for their Opera on Wheels production of “The Barber of Seville” at 11 a.m. in the Zoo’s Indoor Theatre. The entire celebration (including opera production) is free with regular Zoo admission. This “pachyderm party” isn’t the only big thing happening at the Zoo though. Come and explore all the wild wonders from Emerson the 100+ year old Galapagos tortoise to the entertaining antics of Wakil, the baby orangutan and the silent beauty of over 3000+ sea creatures in the newly renovated Aquarium. The Toledo Zoo is the place to celebrate every milestone, including birthdays for both animals and humans!
