The Maumee Valley Country Day School Global Leadership Program Speaker Series welcomes Wenonah Hauter, founder and Executive Director of Food & Water Watch, Thursday, April 28, 2016, 6:30 – 7:30pm at the Kasperzak Center, Maumee Valley Country Day School, 1715 S Reynolds Rd, Toledo, OH. She will speak about her extensive research on food, water, energy, and environmental issues at the national, state and local level. This event is free and open to the public. There will be a reception with refreshments after the presentation. Wenonah Hauter is the founder and Executive Director of Food & Water Watch, a D.C.-based watchdog organization focused on corporate and government accountability relating to food, water, and fishing. She has an M.S. in applied anthropology from the University of Maryland. She has worked comprehensively at the national, state, and local levels on food, water, energy, and environment issues. She has lobbied and implemented field strategies and action plans at the grassroots level where her organizational skills have served her well. She was: - Director of Public Citizen’s Energy and Environment Program from 1997 to 2005. - The environmental policy director for Citizen Action from 1996 to 1997, working with the organization’s 30 state-based groups. - Senior organizer at the Union of Concerned Scientists from 1989 to 1995. She managed broad-based, grassroots sustainable energy campaigns in several states. She authored the book Foodopoly: The Battle Over the Future of Food and Farming in America, a probe into corporate consolidation and control of our food system and the subsequent consequences on farmers and consumers. The San Francisco Chronicle writes: "Foodopoly is politically brave—not just naming names in the agri-industrial complex, but pushing us to think more deeply about the politics and economics that dictate our diets beyond our own roles as shoppers and eaters." Wenonah Hauter will be available after the event for a book signing. Another book, Frackopoly: The Battle for the Future of Energy and the Environment is due for publication this year.
