UT Department of Music to Add New Jewel to its Crown with Glass City Singers Auditions – September 9

The University of Toledo Department of Music will hold auditions September 9 for a brand new singing group, The Glass City Singers. The group is a new choral ensemble coming to Toledo in September 2016. This group will be made up of young singers between the ages of 16-30. Members will be selected from the highest quality high school, collegiate, and young professional singers in the Toledo area. Ensemble Goals - To provide a choral experience of the highest quality to all singers - To provide a choral experience for high school students seeking to go beyond the opportunities on their home campus, and to prepare them for collegiate choral experiences - To provide college students with additional performance opportunities, and leadership opportunities within a prestigious choral ensemble - To provide young professional singers and music educators with a choral experience as they transition into the professional performance world - To create exciting performances which engage and involve the Toledo community Auditions Friday, Sept. 9, 3-9 p.m. in the UT Center for Performing Arts (main campus) Interested singers must register for an audition here: http://j.mp/2989RBZ Auditions are required for acceptance into the Glass City Singers. Time slots will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. Every effort will be made to honor your choices. However, if your desired slot is filled, you will be offered another time. Singers will be expected to: - Perform two pieces in contrasting styles – Music may be accompanied or a cappella (singers must provide their own accompanist) - Sight read in major and minor keys - Demonstrate rhythmic proficiency Fees/Rehearsals Singers who are selected for the ensemble will be asked to pay a $100 fee. This fee will help to cover costs of our accompanist and music purchases. There is NO fee to audition. Rehearsals will be held weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm in the University of Toledo Choral Rehearsal Room (CPA 2016). Singers who are not able to attend all rehearsals may be subject to removal from the ensemble. [Absences will be excused on a case by case basis at the discretion of the director. About the Director Brad Pierson is the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Toledo. Brad earned his B.M. from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, M.M from California State University-Los Angeles, and D.M.A. from the University of Washington. Prior to his appointment at Toledo, he was an Assistant Professor of Music Education at Western Illinois University. In 2012, Brad founded whateverandeveramen., a project-based choral ensemble which is focused on breaking down the traditional audience/performer paradigm by creating unique, and non-traditional performance events. This group has performed the world premiere of works by Paul Ayres, David V. Montoya, and several other young composers. Most recently, in an effort to bring a new voice to choral music, they commissioned a new work for eight voices by critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Gabriel Kahane.
