Toledo Museum of Art Expands Internship Program
TOLEDO, Ohio – This summer, the Toledo Museum of Art welcomed a record 23 college student interns and 12 high school students from Toledo School for the Arts for employment at the Museum. The summer internship program was made possible by The John and Dorothy Clement Scholarship Fund that provides funding to support hiring 21 of the interns for summer 2016. The students work an average of 20-25 hours per week. “The goal of the internship program is to show that there are more opportunities in the Museum than just being an artist. The Museum is in the business of art education and we will always need innovative people to help us make this happen,” said Siccorah Martin, TMA human resources manager. TMA’s internship program has been in existence for 14 years, but this year the Museum had more interest in other departments besides curatorial and public programming. This year the program expanded to include marketing/communications, information systems, development, education, security, graphic design, public programming, special events, facilities and grounds. Toledo School for the Arts students oversee Play Space, a new outdoor playground. Tami Landis, a curatorial intern, said her internship is helping her to fine tune her interests. “This curatorial internship is a perfect experience to correlate to my upcoming graduate studies in art history. Thus far, I am enthralled in the variety of task one finds in curatorial work,” she said. Below is a listing of students working at the Museum this summer.
