The Franciscan Center of Lourdes University is pleased to announce its October 2016 slate of events.

Sunday, October 2
The Toledo-Poznan Alliance presents its Annual Dozynki Dinner from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 419-841-2909.

Monday, October 3
The Christ Child Society hosts the New Members Coffee from 10 to 11 a.m. For more information, call 419-262-4613.

Tuesday, October 4
Lourdes University hosts the annual Toledo Area Catholic College Night from 6:30-9 p.m. Colleges and universities from around the country will be represented. For information, call 419-885-5291.

Thursday, October 6
The Sylvania Franciscan Village presents the 6th annual Zero Waste Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event which is in honor of St. Francis of Assisi aims to offer a lunch that produces zero waste including serve ware. Sunday, October 9
Lourdes University presents the Presidential Inauguration of its tenth leader Dr. Mary Ann Gawelek at 1 p.m. During the October 9th installation ceremony, Dr. Gawelek will announce her goals and plans for her first year as president. Thursday, October 13
The Red Cross Club of Lourdes University hosts its 3rd annual blood drive in honor of alumnus Tim Berta from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those wishing to give blood are asked to make an appointment by calling 716-374-0442. Individuals can also register online at www.redcrossblood.org using the code LOURDES. Donors must present a photo ID at appointment.

Tuesday, October 18
The Sylvania Franciscan Village offers a Father Jim Bacik Lecture on “Political Ethics” at 5:30 p.m. As the U.S. Presidential election approaches, Father Bacik discusses the ethical guidelines found in the American bishop’s document Faithful Citizenship as well as perspectives suggested by contemporary theologians. Friday, October 21
The Lourdes University Lifelong Learning Lecture presents “Deadly Doodle” with Kimberly Venuk, Forensic Scientist for the Michigan State Police. Ms. Venuk uses a real-life crime example to illustrate the differences between fact and fiction in using science to solve crimes. The lecture is at 10 a.m. with refreshments offered at 9:15 a.m. Free for members and first-time visitors.

The Lifelong Learning Hot Topic is “Gleaning for Hunger Relief” presented by Hunger Relief advocate George “Tater” Jensen. The event runs from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Reservations are strongly encouraged at least one week prior. Lourdes University offers a Gray Wolves Softball Reverse Raffle and Silent Auction Fundraiser from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner by a local restaurant, cash bar and a DJ.
