Arts Commission Celebrates Holy Toledo LaughFest with October Art Loop: The Art of Comedy & Magic

When: Thursday, October 20, 2016, 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. Where: Multiple venues throughout Downtown Toledo TOLEDO, OH – The Arts Commission is pleased to announce the October Art Loop: The Art of Comedy and Magic. As part of the month-long Holy Toledo LaughFest, The Art of Comedy and Magic celebrates the fun, funny, and mind-bending side of local performing and visual arts. This month’s Art Loop features several special events and exhibitions around the themes of comedy and magic. Specific event information is featured below. The Art Loop is Toledo’s signature monthly arts experience and is a program of The Arts Commission, presented in partnership with the artists, galleries, and creative spaces of Downtown Toledo. Art Loop Bus Passes are just $1.25 and include unlimited rides to all stops all evening. Information Stations are located at Toledo School for the Arts (333 14th Street) and Hensville’s Swamp Shop (St. Clair Street entrance, corner of Washington). WTF! (Work That’s Funny) Pop-up Exhibition 5:30 – 9:00 pm at Handmade Toledo Come laugh, cry, and feel awkward. Curated by local artist, Luke Ellison, this show of 2D and 3D work explores the funnier side of the fine arts, with a mix of hilarious, silly, droll, dark, and absurd works of art by some of Toledo's most well-known creatives. Participating artists include Rebecca Emrick, Ken Dushane III aka PHYBR, Aaron Pickens, Luke Ellison, Peter Koelsch, Bianca Knaves, Steve Athanas, Matthew A. Donahue, Crystal Gale Phelps, Jack Wilson, Tara Outten, Steve Colthern, and others. Art Loop Magic Show Spectacular featuring Pattrick Pryzsiecki and Eli Portala 7:00 - 8:00 pm at the Hensville Swamp Shop Hensville comes alive with kids and family activities, including special guests from Bird's Eye view Circus, and culminates in the Art Loop Magic Show Spectacular, featuring acclaimed area magicians Pattrick Pryzsiecki and Eli Portala at 7pm. At just 20 years old, Eli is one of the magic world's hottest rising stars. He has performed across the US from Las Vegas to New York City and wowed audiences as far away as Italy with his award-winning magic. Pattrick has performed all across the United States and United Kingdom. His blend of strong Magic and subtle Humor makes him a favorite with audiences of all ages. Kids Zone with Bird’s Eye View Circus 5:30 - 7:00 pm at Hensville, St. Clair Street Special Guests from Bird’s Eye View Circus will be on hand with kid- and family-friendly activities at Hensville. Come play with circus toys and test your balance on the tight wire, all assisted by Toledo’s premiere circus troupe! Rooftop Comedy Series with Brad Wenzel 6:30 pm at Fleetwood’s Tap Room Adult guests are invited to the Rooftop Comedy Series at the tip of Fleetwood's Taproom for a special performance by comedian Brad Wenzel, recently featured on Conan O'Brien! (Rooftop comedy is $5 ticket, 5:30pm doors, 6:30pm show). Brad is from Monroe, Michigan and is a 2014 graduate of the University of Toledo. Comedian Rob Wilfong 6:00 pm at Delightful Art with Dee Delightful Art With Dee welcomes back Comedian, Rob Wilfong to the stage at 6pm! Rob is a one-of-a-kind Cincinnati funnyman who has spent the last several years crafting an act that is charmingly offbeat with a one-liner style has been described as “hilariously vaudevillian-like.” Byte Me | Dan Weeks solo exhibition 7:00 – 10:00 pm at Paula Brown Pub & Gallery Stop by Downtown’s craft cocktail pub and gallery for a solo exhibition by Chicago native and long-time Toledo artist, Dan Weeks. This exhibition features Weeks’ unique graphic design works that are hard-edged, geometric, typographic, and that explore figures from and imagery from his past, including tin toys and clown imagery. Stick around for the Open Blues Jam Session with Aayan Naim, Joel Hazard, Mark Sentle and friends. Roaming Magic with Martin Jarret 7:30 – 10:00 pm at The Attic on Adams Witness the wonder of roaming magician, Martin Jarret. Widely celebrated as one of Toledo’s top slight-of-hand performers, Jarret wows and amazes audiences with his deceptively simple approach and carefree nature. Don’t be fooled, before you know it, Jarret will have your mind reeling and you’ll be peeling your bottom jaw up off the floor.
