Birds of Chicago return to Ohio Theatre’s 2nd Annual Folk Fest

Toledo, OH - The Ohio Theatre welcomes back Birds of Chicago to their second annual Folk Festival! This year’s festival features a stellar line up including special guests The Crane Wives, as well as Jo Serrapere & The Willie Dunns and Toledo’s very own Ben Stalets. Come immerse yourself in the experience that is as exuberant as it is timeless. Doors open at 6:30 P.M. with music starting at 7:00 P.M. Tickets are available for $25.00 dollars at the door, and are being offered in advance for $20.00 through the the theatre’s website. Upgrade your ticket to $30.00 for the Theatre’s Limited Preferred seating. Don’t miss your chance to see the artists who set poetry to motion! Birds Of Chicago, a Chicago-based collective, showcases the singing, songwriting, and performance styles of Allison Russell and JT Nero. The group blends together American gospel, folk, and rock-and-roll into a sound that is both exhilarating and deeply felt. The Crane Wives are a homegrown indie-folk outfit from Grand Rapids, Michigan. They utilize three-part vocal harmonies, eclectic instrumentation, and a passion for song-craft to create organic music that is accessible and innovative. Detroit natives Jo Serrapere & the Willie Dunns draw from many different influences of the American music tradition to highlight front woman Jo Serrapere’s unique, “confessional-style” songwriting. The group bolsters a repertoire ranging from delta blues to modern alt-country. Ben Stalets will be opening the night with a solo performance as well as functioning as the event’s emcee. Ben is a Toledo singer-songwriter who has been touring the country playing his deeply imaginative, wide-eyed, and heart felt songs. The event will be taking place at the beautiful and historic Ohio Theatre and Event Center located at 3114 Lagrange Street in the Toledo’s Old North End. The Ohio Theatre is a cornerstone to it’s community, and is the last survivor of the city’s once numerous neighborhood theatres. Proceeds from the event go to support the preservation and revitalization of this historic icon. Come and be a part of the celebration that continues to be uplifting in so many ways! The Ohio Theatre and Event Center is an on-going project led by United North (501c3), a community development corporation in Toledo, Ohio. United North’s services include housing assistance, business services, village council meetings, financial coaching, and leading the revitalization of the Ohio Theatre and Event Center. With local partnership, they’re making substantial renovations to the historic theatre to revitalize a major cultural asset in the neighborhood. This event is planned in partnership with LISC, The Arts Commission and other partners, as part of a city-wide effort to stabilize downtown neighborhoods through arts and culture. ?
