Lourdes University offers Domestic Violence Awareness Week

October 17 – 21, 2016 Lourdes University is holding a series of events to raise awareness about domestic violence. The week will kick off with a One-Mile Awareness Walk from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Lourdes University campus, 6832 Convent Blvd. in Sylvania. The event is co-sponsored by Hope Rape Crisis Center YWCA. Informational booths will be set up along the way and hot cocoa will be provided by Directions Credit Union. A Candlelight Vigil follows. While at the event, participants and supporters may donate personal hygiene items. Donation boxes will be set up. Other scheduled events during Domestic Violence Awareness Week are: · Make Over Day – FREE make overs by Mary Kay Tuesday, October 18 at 6 p.m. in the Lourdes Den in the Sylvan Square Shopping Center at the intersection of Brint and McCord Roads Participants may donate personal hygiene items at the event · Health Relationship Topics Wednesday, October 19 from 5 to 6 p.m. in Russell Ebeid Hall room 201 The Relationship Remix is presented by Tayla & Jamie, University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) student and Hope Campus Advocate. They will discuss sexual health and healthy relationships. · Pop Culture Influences Presentation Thursday, October 20 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Russell Ebeid Hall room 201 Music, Media and Influence on Relationships is presented by Michelle McDevitt, Director of Public Safety at Lourdes University. Cookies will be provided · Coping with Stress Presentation Thursday, October 20 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Russell Ebeid Hall room 202 Stress to Distress is presented by the Sophia Center · Domestic Violence Awareness Donation Friday, October 21 Lourdes University will complete the awareness week with a donation to Tent City of all personal hygiene items collected. “Domestic violence is a crime. Lourdes University and the many agencies who are participating in Domestic Violence Awareness Week want to arm individuals of all ages with the tools and information they need,” says Michelle McDevitt, Director of Public Safety and Title IX Coordinator.
