International Joint Commission to Host Public Meeting on Great Lakes
The International Joint Commission (IJC), an independent binational organization established by the United States and Canada under the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909, will host a public meeting Thursday, March 23 at 6 p.m. at the Lake Erie Center, 6200 Bay Shore Road in Oregon, Ohio. Citizens are invited to share their views on progress to restore and protect the Great Lakes. The IJC monitors progress toward the goals of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. The commission is holding public meeting at six locations in the Great Lakes basin. People interested in attending the Lake Erie Center meeting are invited to visit www.participateIJC.org to register and also indicate if they plan to speak. Questions will also be taken from the floor. There will be brief presentations that give a summary of current research but most of the time will be questions and comments. Dr. Jeffrey Reutter, former director of the Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab, will moderate. The commission has prepared a draft progress report on the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement that can also be seen at the website. Comments can be submitted online as well as in person.
