The Arts Commission Announces Finalists for Close Park Public Art Commission
The Arts Commission’s Art in Public Places Program is commissioning a work of public art, engaging play as a theme for Close Park in West Toledo. Nestled in a densely populated neighborhood, the park is adjacent to Blessed Sacrament Parrish, Start High School and the West Toledo YMCA. On January 4th, The Arts Commission’s, Art in Public Places Program, launched a nationwide request for qualifications. Over 60 submissions were received. Three finalists for the project have been selected: Madeline Weiner, Denver CO; Michael McLaughlin, Torrington CT; and Randy Walker of Minneapolis MN. Each artist has a unique style and represents a wide range of materials and approaches to developing public art. Artist proposals will be presented on June 18th at 6:30pm. The public is welcome to meet the artists and view proposal presentations. Each artist will have 20 minutes to present their proposal with 10 minutes for questions and comments afterwards. The City of Toledo One Percent for Art budget for this project is up to $70,000. The budget includes all costs associated with the project including, but not limited to: artist’s design fee, travel, materials, community engagement initiatives, documentation, transportation and installation of the work. This project is funded by the City of Toledo's One Percent for Art Program. The One Percent for Art Program is administered by the Arts Commission through its Art in Public Places Committee.
