Sculptor Carruth Creates Exclusive Piece for Packo’s

Renowned local sculptor George Carruth has created a new work exclusively for Toledo’s most famous eatery, Tony Packo’s®.

Now available for sale, the piece can be found in the five Packo’s restaurant locations around the Greater Toledo area only and not in any other retail outlet. Packo’s is proud to be the focus of the exclusive new sculpt, a rare event in the artist’s long career of creating works for his own studio and shop.

Entitled “The Packo’s Pickle,” the piece is evocative of Carruth’s popular series of vegetable carvings, which feature whimsical human features and characteristics on vegetables. “The Packo’s Pickle” sports a winning smile along with the Packo’s logo and banners that proudly proclaim “Toledo, OH” and “Sweet Hot Pickle.”

For over twenty-five years George Carruth has created unique designs that have been enjoyed across the globe by collectors and the general public alike. He took up sculpting at the age of twenty-eight for American Greetings, but soon realized his calling to, as he says, make “children’s illustrations in stone.” He and his wife Deb founded Carruth Studios in 1983 and maintain a lively business out of their Waterville, Ohio retail outlet where all of his designs and products may be viewed and purchased to “Plant a Smile in Your Garden.”

Tony Packo’s opened in 1932 and currently operates five locations in the Greater Toledo area, the newest in Sylvania on Alexis Road.
