Edward Drummond Libbey High School Ohio History Marker Dedication
An Ohio History Marker will be dedicated at the former Edward Drummond Libbey High School Campus on Saturday, April 27th promptly at 11 a.m. The project was initiated by Sue Strasel in 2016 and is the project of the "Libbey High School Ohio History Marker Friends": alumni Judy Jones, Virginia Laster Mojzesz, Henry Pauly, Sue Strasel, Kathi (Central HS alumni) Roger Sund, and Sue Terrill. Toledo Public Schools is the cosponsor and is organizing the event. Put a yellow ribbon or crepe around a tree to show your support Friday, April 26th and Saturday, April 27th. Please join us for this moment of southside and city pride. Honored on the marker is Edward Drummond Libbey as well as the architect Edwin Morgan Gee, the Toledo Public School's supervising architect from 1912-1939, who built almost all of the Toledo Public Schools during that period. Many are now demolished but some are still vibrant, such as Harvard Elementary School, DeVilbiss High School (now Toledo Technology), and Macomber High School, which is now in use as the Life Revitalization Center. Edwin Morgan Gee was also the consulting architect for Waite High School. We will be microfilming any copies of "The Crystal," our school newspaper, from the 1970s on, which will become a part of the collection at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library. We will meet at Caper's Restaurant Bar on S. Byrne near Heatherdowns Blvd. after the reception on campus. For more information or how you can help, please contact email@example.com.
