Partners in Education Expands Programming for Toledo Area
Partners in Education is pleased to announce the expansion of two of their highly successful programs, as the result of a $35,000 grant from the FCA Foundation, the charitable arm of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The grant will support youth literacy via the Mentors in Toledo Schools program, as well as help build career readiness skills through the College & Career… Ready, Set, Go! program.
“Thanks to the generosity of the FCA Foundation, Partners in Education is now even better equipped to provide these vital programs to students throughout the Toledo area,” says Michelle Klinger, Partners in Education’s Executive Director. “The students we serve benefit immensely from the personal academic support and mentoring they receive. We’re seeing quantifiable results, both in our professional evaluations and the students’ standardized test scores.”
“The FCA Foundation is committed to providing educational opportunities that help students advance in school, their careers and life,” said Shane Karr, Head of External Affairs, FCA – North America and President, FCA Foundation. “Together with Partners in Education and volunteers from the community, we are focused on making a lasting impact on current and future generations of young people.”
Formerly part of the Ohio Reads program, Mentors in Toledo Schools provides one-to-one tutoring to Toledo Public School (TPS) students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 at DeVeaux, Garfield, Larchmont, Marshall, McKinley, McTigue, Old Orchard and Sherman schools and Queen of Apostles School, a Central City Ministries School of the Toledo Diocese, as well as two TPS schools located near the FCA US Toledo Assembly Complex supported exclusively by the FCA Foundation – Longfellow and Whittier. The program’s success depends on a dedicated volunteer force who have a passion for mentoring young students and helping them gain skills and confidence in reading and writing.
College & Career… Ready, Set, Go! is designed to foster the knowledge, attitudes, and habits that steer 5th through 8th graders toward higher education and fulfilling careers. Students are connected with Classroom Career Coaches and parent/caregiver coaches and engage in hands-on activities that build high school and career readiness while increasing resilience and self-efficacy. In addition to family events and field trips to local colleges and businesses, guest mentors facilitate career-based activities, discuss their career journeys and offer useful advice as students move into high school.
