Lucas SWCD to Host Spring Fish & Cover Crop Sales
The Lucas Soil & Water Conservation District (Lucas SWCD) is offering a Fish Sale and a Cover Crop Sale this spring.
Lucas SWCD has partnered with Walnut Creek Seeds (Carroll, OH) to offer several different cover crops, including a Color and Cover multi-species mix and Buckwheat, that are well-suited for backyard gardens in northwest Ohio. Cover crops planted in the spring/summer reduce erosion and compaction, attract beneficial insects, and increase water permeability in the garden. Each mix is $7.50 per pound bag. The deadline to place an order is March 27th — orders will be ready to pick up on or after April 16th. To place an order, visit our website (www.LucasSWCD.org/covercrops) or call/stop by our office in Maumee. This sale requires pre-ordering — cash, check, or credit card is accepted.
Lucas SWCD is also partnering with Fender’s Fish Hatchery (Baltic, OH) to offer new and established pond owners the opportunity to stock their ponds conveniently and at a low cost. Anyone considering stocking their pond in the near future should take advantage of this opportunity. Five different types of fish fingerlings, ranging 1” to 6” in size depending on species, are available through the sale for less than $1 each. The species include Largemouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Channel Catfish, Bluegill, and Fathead Minnows. Also available through the sale is Nature’s Pond Conditioner, an all-natural solution to reduce pond muck and improve overall water quality in a pond. The deadline to place an order is May 15th. The pick-up date is Tuesday, May 19th from 10:30-11:30AM at the Lucas SWCD office. To place an order, visit our website (www.LucasSWCD.org/fishsale) or call/stop by our office in Maumee. This sale requires pre-ordering — cash, check, or credit card is accepted. Questions? Contact our office at (419) 893-1966.
