Lucas SWCD to Host Farmers' Breakfast Highlighting Dredge Research
Maumee, OH — The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District is excited to host a free farmers’ breakfast on March 19, 2020 at The Andersons headquarters in Maumee. Doors will open at 8:00 A.M. After breakfast, attendees will hear from Dr. Angélica Vázquez-Ortega, Assistant Professor of Geochemistry at Bowling Green State University, who will share her research on Lake Erie dredge material being used as a soil amendment on farm fields. Dr. Vázquez-Ortega obtained a grant from the Lake Erie Protection Fund to identify the appropriate ratio of soil to dredged material in order to achieve the best crop yield and minimize fertilizer use. A question and answer session will follow her presentation.
Lucas SWCD staff will also share information on current agricultural assistance programs available to Lucas County producers, including Governor DeWine’s H2Ohio Initiative. The event, including a hot breakfast, is free; however, registration is required by March 16, 2020. Visit www.LucasSWCD.org/breakfast or contact the Lucas SWCD office at (419) 893-1966 to register. This event was made possible by: Bowling Green State University; Lake Erie Commission; The Andersons; and the Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District.
