Lights Shine Bright Again at Toledo Lamp Company
Type
The lamp company which specializes in creating handcrafted and custom designed industrial style pipe lamps featuring unique Edison and designer bulbs along with an array of quirky lamps upcycled from unusual items, functional home decor and gift items has recently been acquired by Scott and Mitchell Antesky of Toledo. It will be just one of six studio/retail spaces inside the new Art on Market Shoppes that will specialize in mostly handmade art and more!
The former lamp company owner brought the business to the little known side of the Erie Street Market building on the corner of South Erie and Market Streets in 2016, and turned the keys over to the Anteskys in early December.
Opening after just a few short weeks of hectic renovations, the former warehouse space has been transformed into a bright, colorful and slightly wacky showroom that is as interesting to study as the lamps themselves.
Mitchell Antesky has a background in a wide variety of creative mediums ranging from as he says, “crafting anything out of nothing” to theatrical scenic design, prop building and more will assume the role of chief designer. His plans are to also expand the selections to include a wider variety for the eclectic buyer seeking unique, one of a kind, and custom creations suitable for the Modern Farmhouse, Modern Retro or Steampunk decor. Tables, shelves, bath and kitchen accessories and art pieces are also going to be available.
When Scott is not electrifying the next creation he will be focused on vastly expanding sales and building a strong social media presence across multiple platforms, saying “Online sales are more important today than ever especially while opening a brick and mortar location in the midst of a global pandemic”. Scott will also be acting as business manager utilizing his background in customer service and as a banker.
The Toledo Lamp Company intends to translate their TLC initials into the Tender Loving Care they will build each piece with.
The Anteskys live in the Toledo Warehouse District and are strong proponents for the growth of the area especially retail in the district as the residential population continues to grow while more development continues. The location for the Toledo Lamp Company is visible and just a quick walk from the Toledo Farmers Market, the increasingly popular Night Markets and hundreds of warehouse district loft apartments both occupied and planned whose residents are seeking Industrial style home lighting and decor.
The building is owned by IBC Properties Inc. which is welcoming the development of the row of six indoor spaces within the north bay of the building into an artist's row style indoor mall of retail shops and studios.
The Art on Market Shoppes, 201 South Erie St., currently are home to the Toledo Lamp Company and The JewelryJoint. A one hundred and fifty foot plus gallery wall is also being planned and will feature artworks for sale from local artists and will run adjacent to the additional four studio/retail spaces that are currently available and seeking tenants.. Three units are approximately 340 square feet each and one is 620 square feet. Leasing rates are start-up friendly and are extremely competitive for the increasingly popular downtown district that is filled with crowds of all ages during event times as they seek, restaurants, bars and hopefully more shopping!
Presently the Art on Market Shoppes will mimic the adjacent Libbey Glass Factory Outlet hours on weekends only, Saturdays 8-5 and Sundays 10-5. Plans for extending hours on popular game and event nights will be re-evaluated as Covid-19 regulations dictate optional changes.
