Punk Hostage Press Releases Debut Novel by Toledo Author
Dan Denton: a writer for the people

Los Angeles-based Punk Hostage Press is hosting a Zoom book release party for their latest title $100-A-Week Motel by Toledo author Dan Denton. Reading selections from the book will be the author and his special guests S.A. Griffin, Pleasant Gehman, Michael Grover, Michele McDannold and host Iris Berry. The book release "party" will take place on Sunday, January 31st beginning at 6pm ET/5pm CT/ 4pm MT/3pm PT.

Denton is an auto worker at the Jeep assembly plant in Toledo and a proud member of the UAW. He currently serves as a day shift Chief Steward in the Wrangler Assembly department.

Originally from Mattoon, Illinois, Denton developed a love for books at an early age. For two years in high school, he worked at the local public library. Although Dan was a voracious reader, he later dropped out of college and  has worked in factories for most of his adult life.

Denton has lived in the Toledo area for the past sixteen years. A regular in the local literary scene, Denton has numerous poetry publications under his belt and has become known as a blue-collar writer, a writer for the people. In addition to all his other responsibilities, Denton hosts a podcast called The Blue Collar Gospel Hour produced from Not A Duck In Any Row Studios in Toledo and publishes chapbooks and zines through his indie publishing press Lunch Bucket Brigade: a press for working people.

Denton's writing came to the attention of publishers at Punk Hostage Press through a Zoom book release party for one of his recent chapbook collections Give Us This Day Our Daily Grind: an Ode to the American Factory Worker.

Denton's debut novel, $100-A-Week Motel, has been called a "hallelujah chorus of proletariat madness," by the co-editor of the Outlaw Bible of American Poetry, S.A. Griffin.

Author A.S. Coomer had this to say about $100-A-Week Motel, "It’s a gritty collection of rust-belt psalms, bite-sized pieces of poverty, desperation, and humanity that lodge themselves in your windpipe and refuse to leave. It chokes you with compassion and second-hand smoke."

In the book's introduction, Editor/Publisher Michele McDannold says of Denton's writing, "Dan writes in the rhythm of artful,  honest compassion; in the tradition of unrelenting, no bullshit this is the real stuff, the honest and true struggle… in every line, loved."

Early reader reviews of the book concur, "If you've ever struggled to make it, worked in a factory, wandered aimlessly day to day just to do it all over with no direction in life, settled for less than love just to feel the touch of another, or all of the above, you will find yourself in this story."

Another reader says, "With a writing style as colorful and dramatic as the characters in his story, Dan guides us on a soulful journey into a realm that is unknown to those who've never lived in a world inhabited by the forgotten, ridiculed, downtrodden and desperate. This book is part cautionary tales of a life run off the rails and an uplifting story cautioning us to find happiness in small things and the good in all people."
