Bias Film Screening & Panelist Discussion

Posted: Friday, July 9, 2021 by: Marla Garner | Category: Community Interest

If You’re Human, You’re Biased. Now What?

Looking for a way to begin courageous conversations with staff or friends? Consider hosting a gathering to watch together.

The YWCA of Northwest Ohio will present the film “bias,” a documentary by award-winning filmmaker Robin Hauser that highlights the nature of implicit bias, the grip it holds on our social and professional lives, and what it will take to induce change. According to Hauser, “bias...is the underlying precursor to many of the “-isms” that plague our society: sexism, racism and ageism”.

To obtain an exclusive link to the film, please register at bit.ly/bias viewing. The link will be active from July 16th at 5:00 pm until July 19th at 12:00 pm. You may also stream the film from Hoopla with a Toledo Lucas County Library card. Then join the filmmaker/director and community leaders for the virtual panel discussion on July 19th at 6:00 pm. You will be sent the link to the panel discussion when you register. This is a free event.

Our goal is for everyone in the community to watch the film and to begin the conversation on different ways to dismantle bias and move forward toward the mutual goal of ensuring and maintaining equity for all. A discussion guide complete with action steps and selected resources for further study will be provided to participants upon request.

For more information, frequently asked questions, and to view the trailer visit ywcanwo.org/bias.

The film and discussion are being made available with support from ProMedica, Fifth Third Bank, and Lucas County Children Services.
