Common Space Center for Creativity secures $1.25 million grant from federal government
The Arts Council Lake Erie West is beyond happy to announce that Common Space has been awarded $1.25 million for the revitalization of the community arts building (formerly Glann School, owned by TPS). The funding is part of the more than $14 million that is coming to the Toledo area as part of the federal government’s $1.5 billion 2022 fiscal year appropriations bill, according to U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur’s office. President Biden signed the bill into law Friday, March 11, 2022.
The funding will be used to renovate and conduct energy upgrades at the Common Space which provides a venue for countless international, faith-based, and support-oriented community groups. The Common Space facility and its tenants provide valuable services to the community for engagement with the arts and creative outlets. Common Space has continually provided countless thousands of children and adults in Toledo and northwest Ohio residents with quality arts and cultural classes and international programs for 38 years. Common Space serves as an incubator for artists, a cooperative workspace for nonprofits, and a participatory resource for the public. Common Space partners with other community agencies to provide special events, clothing and resource drives, festivals and educational activities, etc. within the community.
