Toledo, Ohio –
Saturday, April 23rd is the 15th annual global Record Store Day, and Culture Clash is going hard. Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 as a means to celebrate and promote the distinctive culture and community surrounding nearly 1,400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. This is a day for the staff, the customers, and the artists to come together, celebrate their favorite indie stores, enjoy live music, and pick up a few special releases. Join us at Culture Clash as we throw a party with two years’ worth of reserved enthusiasm, promising to entertain and energize you all Saturday long.
In the nearly two years since Culture Clash Records moved downtown to 912 Monroe Street - the 135-year-old building between Michigan & 10th - the longtime local business has received unrelenting support from the Toledo area’s vinyl and music communities. Since the move, Culture Clash has built a brand new stage in its adjacent event space, welcomed The Switchboard bar next door, acquired our entire building, released two Live @ Culture Clash LPs and two exclusive vinyl variants for Toledo-area acts, expanded its inventory to include books, pins, arthouse films, a bunch more records, and hosted seven Record Store Day pandemic-modified events, all while maintaining consistent precautions. Record Store Day on Saturday, April 23rd will be just the first of many exciting events to come as Culture Clash enters its newest phase.
When Culture Clash opens at 10am on April 23rd, we will have limited quantities of exclusive vinyl titles being released exclusively to independent record stores on Record Store Day. RSD titles include music from David Bowie, Jackson 5, La Luz (pronounced la LOOZ), Kacey Musgraves, Childish Gambino, Future, Rex Orange County, Mariah Carey, Weyes Blood (pronounced WISE blood), Kirk Hammett, The Doors, Stevie Nicks, and 2022 RSD Ambassador Taylor Swift, to name just a few.
Record Store Day will be an all-day celebration featuring alternating indoor and outdoor performances by a whopping seventeen local and regional acts, kicking off at 9:30am for all those who are lined up and ready and running all the way to 8:00pm, including a variety of local pop-up vendors, organizations, and food trucks to browse. Culture Clash will have freebies and giveaways for customers while they last, and unleash our mighty “Buy 1 Get 1 Half Off All Pre-Spun Records Sale.” Ample parking is available surrounding the building and in the lot across from Shell at Monroe + Michigan. Limited seating will be available inside and out, especially for those spending all day with us, taking in live music downtown.
The ten Toledo-based and seven regional (OH, MI, IN) bands/musicians performing on Record Store Day are:
|
9:30am - Daniel Cotter 10:40am - Drew Joseph 11:15am - Violent Bloom 12:30pm - Lung (Cincinnati) |
2:30pm - The Beetz 4:30pm - Mike Adams At His Honest Weight (Bloomington) 6:00pm - Idle Ray (Ann Arbor) |
Local vendors and organizations will include Sweet Nate’s Coffee, Trip’n Biscuits, The Leaf + Seed, Printed On A Lark, Handmade Toledo, Cydnee Moore, Food Not Bombs, plus vintage apparel, handmade goods, and more!
Leading up to the big celebration, Culture Clash is hosting afternoon events on Tuesday, April 19th for (419) Day, and Wednesday, 4/20. The April 19th event is from 5:00-8:00pm and will feature Ben Stalets (RSD Preview), Greg Dale, Teamonade (solo), food from Frankly Plant Based Kitchen, and more. The April 20th event is from 4:00-8:00pm and will include performances from She Speaks (RSD Preview), Chavar Dontae, and Culture Clash’s own ahsataN, as well as food truck Trip’n Biscuits and a few high-minded friends.
