Man in the City Project Inspires Impactful Exhibit in the University of Toledo Center for Visual Art Exhibit
A unique exhibit inspired by artist John Sauve' and his Man in the City Project is on display in the University of Toledo's, Center for the Visual Arts at the Toledo Museum of Art, 620 W. Grove Pl. Thirty individual interpretations of the Man in the City silhouette were created by art students at Achieve Preparatory Career Academy in Toledo. The exhibit runs through July 31, viewing hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Thirty art students from Achieve Preparatory Career Academy, a high school for at risk youth dealing with an array of social, personal, and economical issues were led through a process of individualizing a 3D or 2D iteration of the famous "Man In the CIty" sculpture created by John Sauve'. Mr. Sauve' created the "visiting artist program" with Achieve Academy and worked with Art Teacher, Jan Revill, who led the students in exploring their personal thoughts, ideas, belief, goals and expressing them visually. The result of the project is a moving exhibit featuring impactful visual art by the students along with moving artist statements. Audrey Johnson-Gibbs from Unbounded Artists documented the project through images and her images are on display with the student art. In addition to the student exhibit John Sauve has a Man in the City sculpture exhibited on the 2nd floor balcony of the CVA which can be viewed from outside the CVA, located on the east side of the building. University of Toledo Sculpture Head arranged for the exhibit to be located in the Center for Visual Arts. The student participants were gifted free art classes at the Toledo Museum of Art, and donor Kurt Breiling provided each student with a customized t-shirt symbolizing their exhibit.
