Music at the Market Presented by Mercy Health Featuring The Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra
Music at the Market presented by Mercy Health continues Thursday, June 30 at 7:00 with The Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra. Concerts take place on the lawn of the Commodore Schoolyard, 140 E. Indiana Avenue. Concert goers should bring a blanket or chair.
PSO Conductor Travis Jurgen has put together a diverse program which will include patriotic favorites, selections from The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady featuring local vocalist, Sonia Perez, film music from the Chronicles of Narnia and popular works by Tchaikovsky ad Elgar.
The Perrysburg Symphony is celebrating its 60th anniversary this season. It was founded under the guidance of Juliet Beck, and it's first conductor, Frank Menichetti in 1961. Since its inception the orchestra has held to their original mission to be “a community-based, professional ensemble dedicated to providing an opportunity for talented area musicians to perform a variety of high-quality concerts and educational programs that augment the cultural life of the community”. Maestro Jurgens was appointed as the Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra Music Director and Conductor in 2018. His biography is filled with notable awards and accomplishments. Most recently he won 2nd Prize and the President of the Jury Award at the 2019 Bucharest Music Institute International Conducting Competition. He has been praised as “a superior conductor” and “well on his way to becoming a major conductor in the world of symphony orchestra” (Opus Colorado).
The Music at the Market concert series runs in conjunction with the Farmers Market which features booths with fresh foods, products, and food trucks. This concert series is made possible by The Perrysburg Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mercy Health and coordinated by Main ART-ery.
