TOLEDO - Every year on Christmas Eve the Annual Christmas Cruz In Honor of Officer Dia takes place in an effort to supply toys to the Children at the Toledo Children’s Hospital. In its 3rd year, the benefit will consist of events which include pictures with Santa and friends alongside Santa’s sleigh as well as a parade of decorated tow trucks who will deliver several toys collected by area businesses to Toledo Children’s Hospital.
Event organizer Dee Lynn created the event to assure the children who will be spending the holidays at the Toledo Children’s Hospital receive a little extra cheer this holiday season. Ms Lynn states, “Each child receives their own toys as the children actually do not share toys due to so many having immune system difficulties.” She continues, “Events like this help bring a little extra happiness to several children's faces, the main reason we do this event.” Last year’s events consisted of over 70 tow trucks with even more expected this year.
The event which takes place on Christmas Eve begins at 4pm at 4925 Jackman Rd at Miracle Mile Shopping Center with pictures with Santa, Mrs Claus, Christmas Elves and more. At 6pm the decorated tow trucks will arrive and get staged for the parade. At 6:15 there will be a moment of silence in honor of fallen hero Toledo Police Officer Anthony Dia as well as the event's 1st Santa Sleigh driver Chase Wilkes. Gone but never forgotten. At 6:30 Santa and Mrs Claus along with their team of elves will head to the Toledo Children’s Hospital to distribute the toys accordingly. Officer Dia’s sons Younes and Maytham will be attending to help Santa and friends.
A toy collection which began on November 1st will continue until the boxes are gathered up on December 23. Toy donation sites have been set up around the area to help gather the needed toys and include Toledo Hemp Center, Wheeling On The Rocks, Midwest Mortgage Company, J&J Towing, Hammers Grill, Distillery, Dandino’s Pizza and More, Daffy’s, Orra’s Automotive and Brown Honda. An Amazon wish list has been orchestrated for those who are unable to make it out to get a toy.
