The YWCA of Northwest Ohio will be participating in the global movement of Giving Tuesday on November 29, 2022. This movement has been driven by companies, communities, charities and individuals all around the world. Giving Tuesday is considered to be the opening day of the giving season!
The YW has been active in the community for 152 years and we have been in our current building located at 1018 Jefferson Ave in Toledo Ohio for 68 years. We have various departments within our building including: Racial Justice, Victim Services, Child Care Resource and Referral, Youth Development, Healthy Connections and Permanent Housing. This year’s Giving Tuesday will benefit our Capital Campaign to raise funds for renovations of the ONLY emergency domestic violence shelter in Lucas County. We are in dire need of renovations to provide the services and programs to our community. Our 17 room, 46 bed shelter is small, communal and not appropriately sized. In addition to lacking security and dignity, the shelter has 1 kitchen, 1 dining space, 1 common area, and 1 small communal bathroom all of which is shared amongst shelter guests averaging 50 people per night. The YW is asking for the community's support to help raise funds for renovations that will provide a more safe and dignified space for survivors to heal. Included in the renovation plans is doubling the shelter rooms by building up on a pool that is no longer operable. The YW has currently raised $13 million of a growing $15 million goal!
