BGSU Department of History to Welcome Dr. Terrance Wooten for Black History Month Guest Lecture
Dr. Terrance Wooten, Assistant Professor at The University of California, Santa Barbara, will present the annual Black History Month Guest Lecture, hosted by the Department of History at Bowling Green State University. The lecture will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 4pm in Room 201 (Sky Bank Room) of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union at BGSU. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Dr. Wooten’s lecture is entitled “"Beyond Perpetrators: Black Men Against Sexual Violence and the Genealogy of Prison Reform." The talk reconsiders the history and legacy of the organization Prisoners Against Rape, founded in 1974, and considers what centering the experiences, writings and appearances of these Black men can teach us about prison abolition as we continue to build toward a different kind of future.
This event is part of a large program of events honoring Black History Month, sponsored by the Bowling Green State University College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of History, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the School of Cultural and Critical Studies.
